Become A Singer

 

Thank you for your interest in singing with the Greenville Chorale, the premier symphonic chorus in the Southeast. The Chorale is comprised of 160+ volunteer singers from all professions, ranging from high school students to retirees. New applicants are accepted as positions become available in order to keep balance among parts within the Chorale. Auditions are required for all singers interested in becoming a member of the Greenville Chorale. Auditions are held in August and January. Please complete Audition Application (the Apply Online button), and call 864-235-1101 to schedule your audition appointment. Chorale singers are expected to be experienced, high quality vocalists with clear, strong voices.

Audition Process

Auditions take approximately 10 minutes and are held with Dr. Bingham Vick, Jr., Conductor and Artistic Director of the Greenville Chorale. It is expected that a potential Chorale singer will come with considerable past choral experience, and be able to read music. Each person auditioning should be prepared to:

  1. Sing first verse of Star Spangled Banner unaccompanied
  2. Vocalize
  3. Most importantly, Sight Sing

Notification

You will receive a response notification by mail or email within two weeks of your audition date.

Audition Location

Auditions are held in the Herring Music Pavilion, Harper Hall on the North side of the Daniel Music Building on the campus of Furman University.

Directions

From Asheville, NC: Take I-26 to Hendersonville, NC, then US 25 South. Stay on Business 25 to the Furman University exit.

From Downtown Greenville: I-385 North to Greenville. Travel north on I-385 for 8.2 miles into the city of Greenville. Go past the Bi-Lo Center (on your right). This road becomes Beattie Place. Follow Beattie Place (which becomes College Street) until bearing right onto US 276 West towards Travelers Rest and Hendersonville. Continue five miles to the Furman exit.

From Anderson: Take I-85 to the I-185 exit. Follow I-185 into Greenville. I-185 will become Mills Avenue and then Church Street. Turn left (at the First Citizens Bank Tower) from Church Street onto Beattie Place. Follow Beattie Place (which becomes College Street) until bearing right onto US 276 West towards Travelers Rest and Hendersonville. Continue five miles to the Furman exit.

*The Daniel Music Building is the first building on the right. Parking is located on the right side of the building. Enter the Nan Trammell Herring Music Pavilion and Harper Hall is inside the Herring Music Pavilion.


Member Policies

Membership Responsibilities

Membership in the Greenville Chorale is an honor and new members are expected uphold a firm commitment to the Chorale and to the Artistic Director. Singing members are expected to commit to the entire season of concerts and rehearsals.

Dues

Annual dues for Chorale membership are $40.00 per year.

Attendance Procedures

Rehearsals are held in Harper Hall on the campus of Furman University in Greenville, Monday evenings from 7:30-9:30pm. The quality of the Chorale’s performances depends on the attendance of each singer; therefore, no more than two absences of any type are allowed per concert performance. Orchestra and dress rehearsals are mandatory.

Music

All music will be furnished by the Chorale.

Concert Dress

Women – Each Chorale singer is responsible for ordering her own concert “dress”.
